How do you search the Regional History and Genealogy Center Catalog?

GRHGC Online Catalog

  • For best results enter a keyword or phrase (not more than three words.)
  • If searching for a specific county, do not enter the word, “county” or “Co.”
  • For example, if searching for books on Shelby County, Tennessee, enter “Shelby TN” or “Shelby Tennessee.”
  • If searching for a state, try entering the state 2-letter abbreviation, then try entering the state name spelled out on a separate search.
  • When searching for a family surname, do not enter the word “family” after the surname.
  • When you see the search results, click on the “Where is it” button on the right side to find the book location (Updating the item locations is still a work in progress — ask for help if you need it.)
  • To see the full display of the item record, click on the “Full Display” button on the right

Family Search Service

FamilySearch Service is Available at the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center

The Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center has been certified as a FamilySearch Affiliate Library by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This allows researchers to request microfilm and microfiche materials from the Family History Center of the Mormon church, which has the largest library of genealogy research materials in the world. All film and fiche ordering is now done online by the person requesting the items. Films and fiche are sent to the GRHGC to be used in house.
  1. Create an account or log in at https://familysearch.org/
  2. Search for microfilm or fiche on the Family History Library Catalog.
  3. Check the “View Film” record to see if there are any restrictions.
  4. Select the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center as your default library when asked.
  5. When you have found the correct item, order it and pay either by credit card or Paypal.
  6. You must have an email address to complete the order.
  7. FamilySearch will email you when the film is ready for you to use at GRHGC.
  8. Priority for viewing is given to the person who orders the film, but film may be used by anyone while it is on loan, and information about films that are currently in-house will be posted.
  9. If you need to use the film longer, sign in to your account at https://familysearch.org/ to renew the item.
  10. The GRHGC will send the film back so it will arrive at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, by its due date.
  11. Copyright laws apply to microfilm and fiche borrowed from the Family History Center.
