Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Grave Removal
Rescheduled-PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL
BE AT 6:00 PM CENTRAL TIME
by James Douthat
When T.V.A. was established by the U.S. Congress, they wanted a system different from the old Corp. of Engineers in order to build a system to control flooding in the Tennessee Valley with a side to produce electricity. One of the major differences in the two organizations is that T.V.A. was held accountable for each grave involved in the construction projects. The old Corp. was a "Slash and Burn" outfit with no responsibility. James Douthat had access to the records kept by T.V.A. for each of the more than 30,000 graves involved in their many projects. In this program, he will explore the process, records, and results of that mandate placed on the organization at the time of conception. We will explore the records fully and then as a whole in the process.
Jim Douthat is a retired Methodist minister, founder of Mountain Press Publishing Company, and an awarded historian. Mountain Press was formed in 1983 by James L. Douthat for the purpose of presenting primary research material for the historian and genealogist. Mountain Press has over 2,000 volumes of genealogy materials such as census, marriage, birth, death, and will records.
Access will be through GoToWebinar. Instructions and Connectivity Link will be forwarded via email to all registrants upon registration, six days prior and again 1 hour prior to the event. Making the connection is quick and easy only requiring a computer and Internet connectivity from wherever you chose to watch the event. Your questions help drive the meetings, and we will be there to help each other.
